Maasai
Mara University is in the sport light again for a wrong reason. This is after a
payroll audit revealed that staff working in the payroll have colluded with
their colleagues to flees the University more than five million shillings. A
staff member who never wanted his identity revealed confirmed that indeed there
are staff members who were paid hundreds of thousands of shillings in terms of
allowances that could not be explained by anybody. Among the staff who received
hefty amounts are Lankeiu Reson Ksh.513,050.00 Samson Ksirkoi Ksh.555,000.00,
Moriaso Ksh. 107,000.00 Salaton Tome Ksh. 480,000.00, Moses Nyambega Ksh.
445,000.00 and Prof. Ogolla Ksh.135,000.00. Among the staff whose accounts were
credited are former staff of the university who left the university in 2016 and
those on suspension.
Recently
Maasai Mara University was on the sport light for having serious in fights over
top management of the University where the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (AR&SA)Prof.
Misia Kadenyi was interdicted and currently undergoing disciplinary process by
the University council. The DVC was suspended on various accounts among them Curriculum
Review, Progression of students, Student admissions, Processing of examination
results, Processing of graduands lists, Anomalies in graduands certificates, Student
unrests, Insubordination, Student campus transfers, Conflict of interest.
Our efforts to contact the vice-Chancellor of
the University to establish the truth of the loss of millions of shillings went
futile because she never picked our calls. We contacted the Deputy vice-Chancellor
Prof. Simon Seno who also declined to speak to us and said he is on leave and
that we should contact Prof. Aggrey Thuo who is acting on his behalf.
Staff at Maasai
Mara University are complaining that the administration is protecting criminals
who are looting the university from all corners and making millions and they
are operating without salary for months. They are also accusing one of the KUSU
Union officials Dr. Anthony Yiaile for having collaborated with the payroll
managers and received a total of Ksh. 337,500.00 and kept quiet and KUSU
members suffer without salary.
In a twist of
events one of the audit staff said that one payroll staff was sent parking for some
time to confuse the scandal so that no one will know who was the architect of
the scandal. The university is currently grounded financially and not able to
pay staff at the right time due to ‘ghost workers’ and many payroll scandals.
